We PC - Just a Gimmick?

The Head Engineer from SPD computers in Bournemouth has labelled the new Intel and ASUS website, wepc.com as “just a gimmick”.

Nathan Stafford, 28 said “it’s not going to do anything really, they want their work done for free.” He also voiced concerns that if a member of the public came up with a good idea that it would just be exploited. Mr Stafford added “When it comes to the insides they haven’t got a say it’s down to the designers.”

Wepc.com which launched just under two weeks ago by Intel and ASUS challenges the public to “help shape the future of the PC.” One idea put forward by forum member ‘sivious’ was a solar powered notebook, however Mr Stafford suggests that this is simply not feasible.

SPD computers specialises in custom made PCs for the public and runs it's own system builder online, Mr Stafford said “they can search the whole market and we get that for them.”

It also seems that with the downturn in the economy people are looking to maintain their current computer systems rather than imagine new ones. Mr Stafford said “we are not selling the high end systems and have seen a huge increase in the repairs.”

To contact SPD computers you can visit their website at www.ezcomputers.co.uk/ or call 01202 267267. To dream up your own PC you can visit www.wepc.com/

Shanghai Masters

Update

Early this morning the final event of the 2008 tennis tour began with the best 8 players competing for the Shanghai Masters title. The Gold group started the tournament with world no.3 Novak Djokovic defeating Juan Martin Del Potro 7-5 6-3, before the often maligned Nikolay Davydenko came through a tough three set battle with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Preview

Scotland's Andrew Murray begins his campaign on Monday and faces world no.6 Andrew Roddick. While this is the first time that Murray has qualified for this event Mr. Roddick has been ever present, qualifying every year since 2003. (Although he withdrew from the 2005 tournament due to injury) Murray goes into the match with a 4-2 record against Roddick including victory in their only match this year in Miami.

The other match in the Red groups pits the Four-time champion and world no.2 Roger Federer against the world no.9 Gilles Simon of France. Simon, who only came into the tournament after Rafael Nadal withdraw earlier this week, defeated Federer earlier this year in Montreal in their only meeting to date. However after Federer's victory at the U.S Open he will again be a strong favourite to win the match.
